Sonic Bridges, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization advancing healing, resilience, and community connection through trauma-informed music therapy and sound-based care. Rooted in Marin County, California, Sonic Bridges serves veterans, justice-impacted individuals, children, and adolescents with complex behavioral health needs, and communities experiencing stress, disconnection, and barriers to supportive care. Our programs bring structured, evidence-informed creative experiences into homes, healthcare settings, community spaces, and correctional environments. Our work is grounded in the belief that music is fundamental to human experience and to the ways we heal. As rhythmic, relational, and expressive beings, people have long used music to regulate emotion, strengthen connection, and give voice to lived experience. When offered within trauma-informed practice, music and sound can become powerful pathways for regulation, resilience, expression, and belonging.At a time when so many people are living with stress, isolation, and disconnection, opportunities for shared listening, creativity, and meaningful connection are more important than ever. A Note from the FounderOver the past two decades, working as a music therapist in hospitals, community programs, and educational settings, I have witnessed the profound ways music and sound can support healing and transform lives.I have seen music break through isolation and create moments of genuine human connection. I have worked with nonverbal children who found new ways to express themselves through sound, rhythm, and melody. I have supported individuals navigating serious mental health challenges, including psychosis, who found moments of structure, expression, and connection through carefully held musical experiences. I have also been present with people at the end of life who found comfort and meaning through music. I have seen veterans reconnect with identity and rediscover purpose through song and improvisation. In correctional settings, I have witnessed creative expression and collaborative music-making as an open space for hope, dignity, and new possibilities. Through sound-based nervous system regulation practices, I have seen how listening, breath, resonance, and vibration can help people settle their bodies, restore balance, and reconnect with themselves and others.These experiences confirmed for me that music and sound are not only artistic forms. They are powerful tools for supporting mental well-being, fostering resilience, and strengthening human connection. I founded Sonic Bridges to expand access to these experiences beyond traditional clinical settings. The Home &amp; Community Music ProjectThe Home &amp; Community Music Therapy Project (HCMP) is a 12-week, trauma-informed music therapy initiative for children and adolescents with complex mental health needs, offered in home and community-based settings. By meeting young people where they are, HCMP helps reduce barriers to care while providing individualized, relationship-centered support through a structured, creative process that includes assessment, lyric writing, music composition, recording, and closure. Through music-making and therapeutic engagement, the program supports emotional expression, regulation, communication, resilience, and connection, while helping each participant create an original musical product that reflects their voice, strengths, and lived experience.
